What’s on my work desk this Wednesday is a quick tip on the usefulness of using tissue paper for a transfer.
When it comes to my artwork, I am often not much of a planner. I love to make backgrounds, so that’s where I start…..what I’m going to do with that background remains a mystery!
When I’m liking the the background, I start trying to figure out the foreground, hmmm I don’t think that is the recommended method…..but, oh well! The piece I just finished was no exception.
Loved the turquoise, yellow, touch of orange background….why not, those are the colors I ALWAYS use! So, now what to do…..I spied some die cut butterflies on my desk, I traced around them on an old book page, cut them out and glued them onto my background. I added some more details but I had this big open space that needed something…..what to do, what to do?
I know, I was playing around the other night sketching a woman’s face….I’ll use that!
I had just bought some Transfer Artist Paper but if I used that the image would face the other way…..it had to face the same direction as the original…..what to do, what to do?
I know, I’ll make a tissue paper transfer. Easy peasy, really! Just cut a piece of white tissues paper and a piece of freezer paper to 8 1/2 by 11”. Heat up the iron, iron the tissue to the freezer paper and run it through your printer. Wait, you say, it will still face the other way…..oh, no, my pretties…..you glue it down with the back side up! It is tissue paper….and very transparent, so it doesn't matter which side is up! Yeah! Problem solved.

What a transformation - from the first movement of a drawing to the finished product. Love it. Must try to do something like this myself.

That's great! Good technique, too. I'm another one that loves creating backgrounds but can't always think what to put on them! What I'd really like to be is the sort of person who sees the picture as a whole, and not as background and foreground. Got to work on that one!!
