Fall is in the air, as they say, the sun is lower, the light is different, the nights are getting cooler and the days shorter.
Thought I would do a little end of season round-up and share an Oregon fall-is-coming scene with you.
Labor Day Monday our family drove up into the foothills of the Cascades to visit this special spot.......Butte Creek Falls.
Back home.....I want to share the gorgeous red blossoms
My other fall bloomer is this unusual sage..."Salvia Spathacea" or Hummingbird Sage. Grows best in dry shade and produces these magenta flower spikes.
I have it planted on the east side of the house, where it get morning sun. It is low growing and has a sharp "sagey" smell.
I planted this plant three years ago and it has spread to about three feet wide and only grows to 12 or 14 inches tall, excluding the flower blossom.

Hi Jan! You have such a wonderful garden. Our crepe myrtles bloom July. That falls reminds of one called Valentines Fall out in Cosby Tn. You are so lucky to have that sooo close.

Wow...the waterfall is beautiful. I have a Crape Myrtle here in Florida but I honestly can't even tell you when it doesn't bloom. Thanks for sharing your beautiful scenery.

That creek is just wonderful, love the falls! We have Crape Mrytles here in GA and they bloom all summer and into the fall. I love them!! We have 5 trees and one gorgeous red bush, of course they were already well established when we bought the house, so I can't take credit for them but they sure are pretty.

I have a Crape Myrtle, but they bloom earlier here. I never say a hummingbird plant. That is really pretty. I would enjoy having that, maybe then I would get some hummingbirds.

Your pictures are beautiful...what a great time you all must have had. My son who lives on Baimbridge Island, WA, is always talking about the Cascades, and one year the 3 men in my family went hikinh up in the Enchantments which I think might be a part of the Cascades. It was quite the hike...lots of ice and very slippery slopes that if they weren't real careful they could have slid into the lakes.

I love the Crape Myrtle, I have one in my yard.
What a beautiful part of the country you live in. Our crepe myrtles bloom at different times, one in my front yard bloomed in August, but others are blooming now!

I'm loving the look of that salvia! I definitely need more Fall blooming plants, and if the hummingbirds like it, it's perfect. I really enjoy watching them all summer, and if I can provide them with even more food, I'm happy!

Those falls are really pretty...I love water...I think it's because there's so little of it here! I was thinking of planting a white crepe myrtle in the front...do they get very big? I wnt one of the multi trunked ones. They bloom in Fall here too.

I live in Western Washington and we are so blessed by the Cascades and the waterfalls and beautiful scenery so close by. Thanks for sharing your pictures. I saw a crepe myrtle in someones yard today and I paused for a moment to just look. That is something we don't have. Lovely pictures.
