Katherine is, not only, a fine artist but also an accomplished writer and the rescuer of misfit animals. If, you go to her blog link above you will read all about life on the farm with her rescued, abused, elderly animals. She and her husband live on a small farm on the west side of Oregon, in the Willamette Valley, where they take care of their brood and nurse them back to good health, grow several acres of fragrant lavender and create amazing art, among their other pursuits.<br />
<br />
Every year in June, they open their farm to the public and serve homemade pie so today, Father's Day, we made the trip to the farm with our Granddaughter, her husband and daughters. Where there were goats, donkeys, sheep, pigs, chickens, llamas and a dogs....OH, my!<br />
<br />
The girls loved it.......so did the adults!<br />
<br />

This little pony, who's Mom is in the shed in the background, is a rescued pony. The mother is blind, hearing impaired and had her ears chewed off by a dog. Most of the animals on the farm have suffered similar mistreatment and now, thanks to the Dunns, are thriving.<br />

Not everyone knows about yarn bombing but it is usually done on public buildings or parks or bicycles or even buses and cars.......it is sort of graffiti with yarn, instead of paint!<br />
<br />
Yesterday, with the help of six knitters, two sons and a granddaughter......we "yarn bombed" the tree in front of the art center.<br />

I say, "101" yarn bombing because it was the first time for any of us to try to figure out how to keep a tree trunk or an arbor covered with long scarves. So, with some fishing line, wire and staples holding it in place we will see how long it stays up.....it is not intended to be permanent. We are hoping for a month.<br />
<br />
We are working with private property and have the consent of the owners.....that is not usually how this type of yarn graffiti is done. An example is: in downtown Portland someone knitted caps and scarves for several public statutes, put them in place and they were gone in a day or two.<br />
<br />
So, we've done our bit to add a little color and a lot of fun to the neighborhood, even if it is only for a few days!</div>

Yep, it is almost May 1 and I'm finally going to make my New Year's Resolution! That Resolution is (drum roll, please) .........work out of only ONE sketchbook/journal at a time! <br />
<br />
I know you were expecting something more challenging, well, it depends on your perspective....I seem to find this one very challenging. Many of us, who like to make art, end up with several tablets or journals of various weights and types of paper and I seem to have a need to make marks in them all.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKU0Nz3N-DAfBUxDVHf1g1gA4bY6Vm-w2UZDs0mpxATGwgyF4p73htbet7832T3RJVu9rqKeaxf0FacfqExW7AbKDi96XuY1LUUcIBOXkm0rhpm3t229vjOmmC2fuy6dYVRaBpNINWXXz8/s1600/IMG_5412.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKU0Nz3N-DAfBUxDVHf1g1gA4bY6Vm-w2UZDs0mpxATGwgyF4p73htbet7832T3RJVu9rqKeaxf0FacfqExW7AbKDi96XuY1LUUcIBOXkm0rhpm3t229vjOmmC2fuy6dYVRaBpNINWXXz8/s1600/IMG_5412.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Sometimes the marks are playful.........<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVctbCSlN4qWewUkQfOoKMGdXCBqWZMZbcsi_aQasuuQNcH4UxRrCwPin3u7EWMJthEJsoY0vG3PAmulSGzDZRbeb7iujFV-sRLkeMguh-kD9qfe7caTw_Yg-k3RZ1X477_JLFOWMBohe2/s1600/IMG_5413.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVctbCSlN4qWewUkQfOoKMGdXCBqWZMZbcsi_aQasuuQNcH4UxRrCwPin3u7EWMJthEJsoY0vG3PAmulSGzDZRbeb7iujFV-sRLkeMguh-kD9qfe7caTw_Yg-k3RZ1X477_JLFOWMBohe2/s1600/IMG_5413.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Sometimes they are studies of people's legs and trying to figure out the foreshortening.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcTqQ2BVWW74brjs3Tp6HlGOadpy5ggIqcglaOhuPKJWSH_r6C5jlHS5wvDqVGabddpnHINWpo6Pa04q0hI_usKQHXRHmApn-OC0XP-tcjdYzvIioAUxXREzDZHkZH9FH6umyYmnHCwMJ8/s1600/IMG_5416.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcTqQ2BVWW74brjs3Tp6HlGOadpy5ggIqcglaOhuPKJWSH_r6C5jlHS5wvDqVGabddpnHINWpo6Pa04q0hI_usKQHXRHmApn-OC0XP-tcjdYzvIioAUxXREzDZHkZH9FH6umyYmnHCwMJ8/s1600/IMG_5416.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Sometimes it is actual class planning or trying to figure out a page design, sometimes they are good ideas, sometime they are just scribbles.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Problem here is.......these are three different books out of about eight, or nine, that I do this kind of note making, scribbling, and sometimes, decent work in. However, I never, never use up one whole book at a time. I may have used half the pages in one book and six in another. I suspect I'm not the only person who does this, but, it makes it very difficult to find something when you want it. You get this great idea, write it down and sketch it out.......you know you did! So, why can't I find it again?<br />
<br />
That's it my New Year's Resolution! Pick one sketchbook and stick with it, in the hope you will be able to find those ideas again.<br />
<br />
In the meantime, I just finished this week's DLP page. This was easy, I love quotes and I need to practice lettering. <br />
<br />

<br />
You know how they have e-cigarettes? Maybe, someone could come up with an e-organizing system, one that DOES NOT involved a computer tho', rather something that would organize things in a puff of smoke!<br />
<br />

Finally, I have followed the Document Your Life Project rules......not rules, really, more like suggestions!<br />
<br />
Each week, the Art to the 5th ladies come up with a prompt to use to create our page for our DLP journals......this week's prompt: Draw your favorite pair of shoes.<br />
<br />
So I did.......<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEialH_rFqCOVp5iY1dZrx4nAHVYEDO_DoFM5DaVZwf6aIA3E4V79TQc6wkttial9bBicXgJMxi247IFWAqPVJP9iMhyEMM6CeEJoj5Pgipe0oSLoB6PXuQgBL8xfSNFcew_EBL4kLR2ZntR/s1600/IMG_5353.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEialH_rFqCOVp5iY1dZrx4nAHVYEDO_DoFM5DaVZwf6aIA3E4V79TQc6wkttial9bBicXgJMxi247IFWAqPVJP9iMhyEMM6CeEJoj5Pgipe0oSLoB6PXuQgBL8xfSNFcew_EBL4kLR2ZntR/s1600/IMG_5353.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The writing, done in pencil, did not photograph well. It reads: walking, gardening, shopping favorite.<br />
<br />
These are Keen sandals that I wear year around for all but the most formal occasions! <br />
<br />
I used a Gelli plate print for the background adding some stamping, a few scraps of paper for texture, my sketch and some lettering. Fun and simple! <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Most weeks I've gone off on my own and made whatever art appealed to me.....this week I played along and followed the "rules"! Can't wait for next week's prompt.<br />
<br />
<br />

Happy Easter to all on this beautiful morning of Redemption!<br />
<br />
For the past several years, our family has celebrated Easter together on the Saturday prior because of a huge community Easter egg hunt that is held in the park behind our house. The little kids would hunt for eggs and we'd followed it up with a day of food and family. Well, I've noticed something, those little kids keep growing up. That means outgrowing things like egg hunts, so we have had to adjust and get creative......which is what we did yesterday.<br />
<br />
We do still have one young grandchild and he came in time for the egg hunt. We were joined for lunch by other family members and then we drove to Salem, for a delightful afternoon, with one of the granddaughters and her family visiting and playing at the A. C. Gilbert Discovery Museum. <br />
<br />
BTW, A.C. Gilbert is the man who invented the Erector set! He was born in Salem, Oregon attended George Fox College and went on to earn his M.D. from Yale. At the turn of the 20th century he invented, and went onto build a business empire around, the Erector set and a multitude of other toys and household appliances that he invented.<br />

Toy manufacturing was not enough to keep Mr. Gilbert's employees busy year around, so he went on to design and patent 150 other items, that would create full time employment in his New York City facility.<br />

I wouldn't overlook the art......this watercolor was painted by a 10 year old!<br />
<br />
If you live in Oregon, or are planning to visit, I would recommend taking the kids to Salem's Discovery Museum because this is just a small sample of all the entertainment offered and the kids will love it!<br />
<br />
Hope you are all having a wonderful Easter weekend. <br />

This is a flower I have never grown, they are beautiful but their fragile petals do not hold up well to Oregon's rainy spring weather, they turn brown and mushy soon after they bloom. That doesn't keep me from admiring their beauty.<br />

This is a collage, with stitching, that I completed this week. Sometimes an idea comes to you and it goes together easily and you're happy with it when your finished......this was one of those rare experiences!<br />
<br />
I finished off the cover for my nature journal, this week too, and have the book assembled.....I am thinking about adding four more pages. <br />
<br />

<br />
I used a piece of linen towel that had been eco dyed for the cover then added a large black velvet medallion and a piece of embossed paper that was a part of an old manicure set, it would have held the nail files, tools, etc......I filled it with twigs. I covered the back with a beautiful piece of eco dyed paper done by my friend, Jeanne.<br />

This is a brief glance at the inside of the journal. I am pleased with how it turned out.<br />
<br />
With spring and sunshine comes the dreaded.......weeds. This time of year I think weed pulling is a relaxing activity, not so much in the summer when it is hot! Guess I'd better put on my garden gloves and get to work.<br />
<br />
Enjoy whatever signs of spring you are seeing pop up!</div>

...........unless you really want to hear me brag about my Grandson!</div>
<br />
All Grandparents think their Grandchildren are exceptional......well, they are, look at who their Grandparents are. I read somewhere that the reason Grandparents and Grandchildren get along so well is, that, they have a common enemy! Not sure it is quite that bad. <br />
<br />
But, I do think that kids that you can spoil and encourage to stomp in mud puddles and eat extra cookies are the best kind because you're not the one who has to stay up all night with them when they are sick or worry about paying the dentist bill! You just get to enjoy them for who and what they are which, of course, is awesome.<br />
<br />
First a disclaimer, I have NINE Grandsons and each, and everyone of them is special! I won't make you sit thru all of that.....I'm just focusing on the one that is a senior in high school and just completed his first art class......got that FIRST art class. <br />
<br />
I'll just do show and tell now......<br />

I would love to take all the credit for prepping this kid for an art class, except it's not true. I gave him a ten minute, maybe, description of perspective when he was 12 or 13. </div>

You know how people are always saying they have no art talent....they can't draw a straight line, never could, never will. I don't believe that is true, I think one can accomplish a lot artistically with interest and desire. </div>
<div align="left">
</div>
<div align="left">
I do believe, however, that some of us are born with a better "eye" for artistic details and more drive to make art. Lots of people, who have never made art in their life, have a great sense of color and design and they can use it masterfully in their homes, gardens and fashions. Drawing or painting just may not be their thing.</div>
<div align="left">
</div>
<div align="left">
It seems to me, this young man finds perspective very easy and he "gets" it. He is able to draw very well, even tho', at eighteen it is not a priority in his life. He does plan on becoming an engineer. His eye for design will serve him well, even if he never picks up a brush and produces a painting. His mother has insisted that he take art again this trimester, the last before graduation.</div>

We are all given gifts, I guess it really is all about how we choose to use them....right now, the world is his "oyster"! </div>

Well, you took the class....now what? Guess I'd better get busy and do something with all the renewed inspiration. <br />
<br />
So, I did.....I've been making pages for my Nature Journal that I started in class, last Saturday, with Roxanne Evans Stout teaching and great group of other aspiring artists.......<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrIhhUcvfC30Q6rYIsaCv71vJfIydxjiylFMoegxKuFMWlJQ9wX5lDyWgB1LN_lJtQ_YXKYj9k-jeGG9MxPZJalZ_3eCdznGo-ozrcRa8ZZUJ9fx1OOpVeIt8_aZPM09SpnEcne7epJJu6/s1600/IMG_5231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrIhhUcvfC30Q6rYIsaCv71vJfIydxjiylFMoegxKuFMWlJQ9wX5lDyWgB1LN_lJtQ_YXKYj9k-jeGG9MxPZJalZ_3eCdznGo-ozrcRa8ZZUJ9fx1OOpVeIt8_aZPM09SpnEcne7epJJu6/s1600/IMG_5231.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
This page is made with hand made paper layered with dark brown paper and topped with Joss paper that I stamped with my hand carved beetle stamp. I stole an idea from my friend, Jeanne, and typed the line "these are the nights beetles love" on paper, stitched it to tea-dyed muslin and glued it on....add a button and done!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0633VfmjlAaAXCp-ITw0gF6CJiXKoxh3CPlmKyO0StRRROp5XSUM3Umsv2tnsXqcn3swInuj04doD4RKqlYqQrXbpTG8L_IMk52jPa4sT2E4kdoddMXJ9d-7Y5hUDbnNwf_ST2Tc_Luo4/s1600/IMG_5232.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0633VfmjlAaAXCp-ITw0gF6CJiXKoxh3CPlmKyO0StRRROp5XSUM3Umsv2tnsXqcn3swInuj04doD4RKqlYqQrXbpTG8L_IMk52jPa4sT2E4kdoddMXJ9d-7Y5hUDbnNwf_ST2Tc_Luo4/s1600/IMG_5232.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
This is more handmade paper and a dried maple leaf stitched inside of a silk tea bag! Made use of Mother Nature's handiwork on the leaf and glued it down!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlCY5ARKMlXe-hmGYLYtZ0f9JMYyVZVRmQUWVlCsSAHMHJtw-OW_JkjbcWNtNaVN5cPxVjA4XLoSoQA0cXrytTh9bzsnhD9A9FIKKRBh8W0QxkfT131UX3pU05kINV0v20p9iANZw7m-On/s1600/IMG_5233.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlCY5ARKMlXe-hmGYLYtZ0f9JMYyVZVRmQUWVlCsSAHMHJtw-OW_JkjbcWNtNaVN5cPxVjA4XLoSoQA0cXrytTh9bzsnhD9A9FIKKRBh8W0QxkfT131UX3pU05kINV0v20p9iANZw7m-On/s1600/IMG_5233.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
More handmade paper, some tatting stitched down, another tea bag, crocheted heart with a heart shape leaf and a hat pin, stitched around with string and added a rusty key for the finish!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh12UEeut1UMzNwgDuVp8xGuhSfVDgidPuVHa2HkJAKbCrMKN7JHeT2QYNOzvGHylHQ-h1ekPM-MUl4eHQrSjIQ3vvCS3Ez9iX7Q93xY-KBe8FlpnJP6qS9isI-2NTGk8W6VNn1w1w5J3Bn/s1600/IMG_5234.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh12UEeut1UMzNwgDuVp8xGuhSfVDgidPuVHa2HkJAKbCrMKN7JHeT2QYNOzvGHylHQ-h1ekPM-MUl4eHQrSjIQ3vvCS3Ez9iX7Q93xY-KBe8FlpnJP6qS9isI-2NTGk8W6VNn1w1w5J3Bn/s1600/IMG_5234.jpg" height="400" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-nkdL3mtA0LV4Da1gs8CM1ixsLTyfgnsELtxcwrohHkYfLoqpCqEVGNrP6eJeabG_UCvBm94NBFjLK3R5DX2N17YB3ECfRXbBwvv7EJavK3xoIOIOQd89kYgB_tmasTnlhnFiBHrQqvxn/s1600/IMG_5237.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-nkdL3mtA0LV4Da1gs8CM1ixsLTyfgnsELtxcwrohHkYfLoqpCqEVGNrP6eJeabG_UCvBm94NBFjLK3R5DX2N17YB3ECfRXbBwvv7EJavK3xoIOIOQd89kYgB_tmasTnlhnFiBHrQqvxn/s1600/IMG_5237.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is one of those pages that you start with one idea and finish with something very different. The "booklet" started with Roxanne demonstrating a book she had made using a twig for the binding. An idea I really liked until I realized it would add too much bulk to my already bulky book, if, I added the twig. So, I stitched it together with blue string and added a brass tag to weight it down, added stamps, some rub-on lettering, a very old photo, real Monarch butterfly wing, sheet music, and a dried yellow flower!!! The translucent paper that covers the photo......from a box of candy! Really, you just can't throw anything away.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij94i2shw-uWrY2EPtj0CV9Ccb6wlEsxVLTWdLdBoodb-DmAdbM4q77JdZ8qJChnwNs4LuXWQig-d6QtceC1ikvhiLD4zqXTLLI1ZT4ust0RTXoewZCl9Li6pILhG6n9gGfOo2f3RleO0g/s1600/IMG_5226.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij94i2shw-uWrY2EPtj0CV9Ccb6wlEsxVLTWdLdBoodb-DmAdbM4q77JdZ8qJChnwNs4LuXWQig-d6QtceC1ikvhiLD4zqXTLLI1ZT4ust0RTXoewZCl9Li6pILhG6n9gGfOo2f3RleO0g/s1600/IMG_5226.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is the last page of "booklet". The birds and berries are printed on a lovely napkin that Roxanne provided, I glued it down on a piece of blue paper and the "metaphor" tag came off of something I purchased to wear......and kept the tag.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZymSa1m72t84AGgrX3erjowoBW6Ro0jIFy4DWIBHXdlyiDooPCgaWPfaqhWLKo0RN3WTlcpQyJIIYr3i7SeKRm5GbAuFxd4H80iWTM6wWLtfVGILVHVzTVtAd16Ipvn7TyaGfUOzQ-4Tu/s1600/IMG_5221.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZymSa1m72t84AGgrX3erjowoBW6Ro0jIFy4DWIBHXdlyiDooPCgaWPfaqhWLKo0RN3WTlcpQyJIIYr3i7SeKRm5GbAuFxd4H80iWTM6wWLtfVGILVHVzTVtAd16Ipvn7TyaGfUOzQ-4Tu/s1600/IMG_5221.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the last finished page, not the last page for the journal.....I have two more in the works!<br />
<br />
This one features a paper doily that friend, Jeanne, eco dyed and gave me....geez, I love that piece of paper! I really like paper doilies anyway, but when you add the natural colors and the texture...YUM! <br />
<br />
The lined paper in the background? It's from an old music composition notebook I found at a flea market, I love the lines. The date? My idea is this journal is my version of a Victorian nature journal so I wanted to add a date, it, ties to the date on the old photo above too. I guess, if it was suppose to be Victorian, it should have been dated earlier....Oh, well!<br />
<br />
So, there it is......my week's worth of work! It's been a good week.<br />

Here is Roxanne on the right and Cleo on the left with students busily working in the background.<br />
Roxanne is a very generous teacher and this is one of the beautiful pieces of her art that she shared with the group for ideas and inspiration.<br />

<br />
For some annoying and frustrating reason the photo wants to load sideways but the quality of her work shines through.<br />
<br />
This morning I'm thinking about what goes into making a class memorable. Certainly, the subject matter but, more so, who is teaching the subject. Roxanne is such a good teacher. Very down to earth, sharing, caring and encouraging and in an art class attended, primarily, by middle aged women I think "encouragement"<strong> in BIG doses</strong> is what is called for the most. When you add friends, food, a lovely work space, a love of nature, lots of great materials to work with....you have not only taught someone something new but added to their bank of great memories.<br />
<br />
Roxanne started the class with a warm up exercise! Each student was encourage to select ten objects from a pile of natural materials, which included leaves, flowers, sticks, moss, pine cones, paper and more, and use those pieces to create "table top" art in pleasing arrangement. Here are a few examples of what the class created, remember there were nine other creations I did not get photographed.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

At the end of the class each student displayed her completed art work, and works in progress, on a table for all to admire.<br />

So, to Roxanne and all of my fellow classmates.....THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES! You are an awesome group!</div>

I am preparing to take a workshop from Southern Oregon artist, Roxanne Evans Stout this Saturday.<br />
<br />
An article in Somerset Studio's magazine is where I first became aware of Roxanne, she and Seth Apter had done a collaboration on a project and the idea completely intrigued me. Later, I would see her work in Seth's book and started to follow her blog.<br />
<br />
Last year, she offered a nature journaling class and I immediately signed up. This is one piece I did in class.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGgnAAMXMS8Zj5NqxTYt-5pTekSGplbO97-DcRNHhcungg0qPItioUsYf9bAFxGw8lOCJn60rodoikdSjV2Qw4gMqVKo6HbeAGJlv8s6vNHI3sOi_hXlYZ3so-Pudb8Aq5AhLHI-16SN7O/s1600/IMG_4309.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGgnAAMXMS8Zj5NqxTYt-5pTekSGplbO97-DcRNHhcungg0qPItioUsYf9bAFxGw8lOCJn60rodoikdSjV2Qw4gMqVKo6HbeAGJlv8s6vNHI3sOi_hXlYZ3so-Pudb8Aq5AhLHI-16SN7O/s1600/IMG_4309.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
After the class was finished, I wanted to learn more from Roxanne. So, I invited her to teach at the Woodburn Art Center where I am a member and, just happen to be one of the class coordinators. She accepted! Come Saturday, March 22...a mere four days from now I, and thirteen others, will spend a wonderful day experiencing more of Roxanne's gentle perspective on nature and how to capture it in art journaling. <br />
<br />
For months, now, I have had a basket that I've been dropping things into that I thought I might want to use for this class. Today, I'm trying to winnow it down a bit. In the process, I found things I had forgotten I had which lead to digging out something else I thought would go with that item.<br />
<br />
As a result.....I think I've added more stuff BUT......it is in very tidy order!!!<br />
<br />
Since it is a Nature journal, I'm digging out the flowers and the leaves I've been drying all winter.<br />
<br />

<br />
I love "holey" leaves and clusters of leaves. On my dog walking adventures in the park, I find lots of feathers and acorns and other interesting twigs and moss. I only dried a few flowers but I do have a few hydrangeas and tiny rosy blossoms dried.<br />

I am bringing some of the paper and the fabric that I ecco-dyed with leaves and flowers last fall. I threw in some ribbon, lace, buttons, rubber stamps, hand-made paper, rubber stamps, rice paper....you get the idea. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
While I had thing spread out on my work table I could not resist playing with them, so I had to do little arranging.....then I ironed out some of the wrinkles, literally!<br />
<br />

<br />
More play....with ecco dyed fabric which I didn't like a first because I'm not a big fan of "pink"! However, when you add some orangey salmon color and a little blue....not too bad!<br />
<br />
Time to quit playing and start packing. I'll share some finished product next week!</div>

I've noticed that this week there seems to be a flurry of folks sharing the Document Your Life Project journals/planners so, I decided......why not!<br />
<br />
Actually, I took Joanne Sharpe's on-line class "Draw Your Awesome Year" in January, so my DLP has a decided Draw Your Awesome Year side to it........I'm sure you'll notice! Since each set of pages represents one week, this is really about half of the pages I've done in my planner but, I'm sure you'll get the idea!<br />

Hope you have a great weekend and can make time for something you love to do.<br />

As much as I'm sure, it must feel like it is never going to happen......spring will happen soon in the eastern half of the U.S. too!<br />
<br />
The winds from the west just need to do battle, a while longer with the ones from the north, or something like that. Truly, I cannot imagine how tired people are of the snow and the cold.<br />
<br />
In Oregon, things are starting to poke out of the ground and beginning to show a little color.<br />
<br />
Even, a bit of blue sky today!<br />
<br />
<br />
Yesterday, I received a whole bunch of inspiration in my mailbox........<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLwDGJnH_8wjJDxSW_lSxptXpr746HPSkdnZI-FvDg9bZAhwbLrPc2shvMJPrcZ6Q4d4kMymV6zoAh8QUn0H9_6W4HcDDZKJy-nTxjUwcClDD1mKFA-fWEFzSxeC0urFuPH5eyIOc7faR0/s1600/IMG_5072.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLwDGJnH_8wjJDxSW_lSxptXpr746HPSkdnZI-FvDg9bZAhwbLrPc2shvMJPrcZ6Q4d4kMymV6zoAh8QUn0H9_6W4HcDDZKJy-nTxjUwcClDD1mKFA-fWEFzSxeC0urFuPH5eyIOc7faR0/s1600/IMG_5072.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
In the form of this book written by Oregon artist, Katerine Dunn. I love her style but, most of all, I love the "feeling" in her art......the whimsy and the melancholy. Touching and inspiring for me.<br />
<br />
A peek inside, reveals......<br />

I love the graphic "design-y ness" of her work. It inspired me to get out my very, very old chalk pastels. You doubt their age? Look at this price tag......now that's funny!<br />

This is a Gelli print with collage and colored chalk. I'm going to play around with adding more texture and detail.<br />
<br />
I love when someone or something gets me to try something different. <br />
<br />
I'm off to explore some new/old things and enjoy the blue sky....while I have it! Enjoy the weekend and stay warm and safe.<br />

I've started a new sketchbook. The day Granddaughter Ashley was here and I showed her how to make a sketchbook of her own, I made this one for myself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyToRun2JRYewODuP6Zk-KoMy5gfpAsu_yDmooKzRpiiQDpA8WD0qk_1LOEt-z5sTpa3l8NlNrqUOAoMdSkNspch-9UaXXtkbRkiJ3kfJZy3ntbURO8zEl7nU9l79DvuqZ5LWnGHkpHufz/s1600/IMG_5062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyToRun2JRYewODuP6Zk-KoMy5gfpAsu_yDmooKzRpiiQDpA8WD0qk_1LOEt-z5sTpa3l8NlNrqUOAoMdSkNspch-9UaXXtkbRkiJ3kfJZy3ntbURO8zEl7nU9l79DvuqZ5LWnGHkpHufz/s1600/IMG_5062.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I love working with recycled packaging.....the weight of the cardboard makes a good book cover and the graphics are often very cool. Companies spend a fortune developing appealing packaging why not take advantage, at least, that's my theory!<br />
<br />
I have a tendency to skip around in my books so I'll draw something in one book one day and pick up another on the next day and use it......with this book, I'm trying hard to use the discipline to finish this sketchbook from start to finish. I think there is something Freudian about this, but I don't want to know!<br />
<br />
On to page #1, I have a new girl "crush" and her name is Katherine Dunn. She is an Oregon artist/writer who loves animals and has such a beautiful way of expressing that in her artwork. This is drawn from one of her photos. Check out her blog <a href="http://apiferafarm.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Apifera Farm!</a><br />

<br />
My plan is to take the Grands and go visit her on Pino Pie Day in June. I'm expecting her book from Amazon tomorrow or the next day.....can't wait!<br />

This is Jack, our walking buddy.....trimmed his beard a bit too much and gave him the weak chin!!!<br />
Next time, Jack, I'll better draw you hairy chiney, chin chin!<br />
<br />
One thing about making your own sketchbooks....use a variety of papers. I just grabbed some paper from the computer printer tray and used that.....a couple pieces of watercolor paper, in the mix, would have been a "good thing".<br />
<br />
I'm about half way through this little book.......I must stay focused and keep on sketching!<br />

It's been a great week........NOT! <br />
<br />
I've had the flu/cold whatever the heck it is that is going around and I'm DAMN tired of it! Last time I was out of the house was last Thursday. I think I'm on the upside of things but the worst symptom, of the week, has been......brain FOG! Holy cow, is there a pill for that? I have not been sick for a very long time....years, time.....so I guess I was due. I'm, also, very ready to be done with it!<br />
<br />
Needless to say, I've not been drawing faces.....I tried, they were pathetic but I've got a sketch I did in our journaling class that I haven't shared.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

As if most of you haven't already seen enough snow.....here is Oregon's contribution. Most of you would laugh at what this much snow does for this part of the country.....we are almost as bad as Atlanta. For three of my sick days, I couldn't have gone anywhere if I wanted to.....the little town I live in doesn't own a snow plow!</div>

Ernest is preparing for his upcoming drawing class, that is offered free by Strathmore papers on their site. <br />

I noticed this morning that a couple of bloggers that I follow are participating in something called 29 Faces Challenge. So, I visited <a href="http://29faces.blogspot.com/p/feb-2014.html" target="_blank">http://29faces.blogspot.com/p/feb-2014.html</a> to learn more!<br />
<br />
I'm not quite set up, need to add the button, but I'm giving it a shot. I can draw 29 Faces through the month of February......can I post 29 Faces, that's the question. But, I will give it my best shot!<br />
<br />
I am not an animal drawer (is that a word?) but I love animals and would like to do a better job of drawing them.....so I am starting to practice with some degree of seriousness. This is a pup, who's photo I had, so, last night I drew him with ink and colored him with w/c pencils.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3nicaP5yvgi-1w7t8uyZLBnqBE39P5DIUCBm6sDkqA4NvWXm1ohtfbePLqh3HX3l2Cr3KNmt_ffXJejm75nfyPVojlrbyYzpzipVEmoimMXN2Kh5wE2HNrJnSmxaMbRUgQWkJYZyuWo9o/s1600/IMG_5018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3nicaP5yvgi-1w7t8uyZLBnqBE39P5DIUCBm6sDkqA4NvWXm1ohtfbePLqh3HX3l2Cr3KNmt_ffXJejm75nfyPVojlrbyYzpzipVEmoimMXN2Kh5wE2HNrJnSmxaMbRUgQWkJYZyuWo9o/s1600/IMG_5018.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
One eye is a little wonky other than that...O.K.<br />
<br />
Since the rules say animal faces count, I'll make this my Feb. 1 drawing (drawn Jan. 31). I really have never tried sheep before but you can bet I'm going to try again......I like sheep faces. <br />

I'll start with the pages I have finished for Documented Life Project (DLP). This great project involves weekly journaling prompts.....week #4 was using envelopes. Here is my interpretation of that......I used a CD envelope and made a small book to keep inside of it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8YMsQ9Wzwrz7dmt-ATt0FaZsWvwenNWMNH7INV3bK9wYe-3rEkKizWUMVIQcJx8pL2eShs9cgeFEc3Inb5ZnSeFlw2rdKN70wk_xX7SmMBP2-1L8T5GiByMGanwoJchzeQsqqGPohDIoS/s1600/IMG_4990.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8YMsQ9Wzwrz7dmt-ATt0FaZsWvwenNWMNH7INV3bK9wYe-3rEkKizWUMVIQcJx8pL2eShs9cgeFEc3Inb5ZnSeFlw2rdKN70wk_xX7SmMBP2-1L8T5GiByMGanwoJchzeQsqqGPohDIoS/s1600/IMG_4990.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Book covers are a great way to use up scrapes of Gelli printed paper.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
For an envelope I used a CD holder and doodled around the edge.<br />

Stand alone book, out side of its envelope cozy. I think I'm going to use this booklet to keep track of the classes I take this year. If they are on-line classes, I should keep notes on where I've saved them to the computer (sad laugh here)!<br />
<br />
This week is week #5 and the DLP prompt is a border.......so I doodled a border and wrote a favorite quote.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVAFl4aWCaeubjLbnPAk0DaRXw_er-v2zVyhzwt8CcHfwGBcalTWNMlTyZMTh_qMOECSTFds-r5sKfaSjj34GxTJ1Q53obPfm1sIeT2yoTn-JsW8Y8X5XyJ0Hi1pJdZ0-noiDkBw_lOx5O/s1600/IMG_4998.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVAFl4aWCaeubjLbnPAk0DaRXw_er-v2zVyhzwt8CcHfwGBcalTWNMlTyZMTh_qMOECSTFds-r5sKfaSjj34GxTJ1Q53obPfm1sIeT2yoTn-JsW8Y8X5XyJ0Hi1pJdZ0-noiDkBw_lOx5O/s1600/IMG_4998.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
These are fun prompts and keep you inspired. If, you want to learn more about DLP go to <a href="http://www.arttothe5th.com/">www.arttothe5th.com</a>.<br />
<br />
I'm also teaching a class where we are encouraging the group to follow along with these prompts. Here is a very, very brief lettering lesson I e-mailed the class. If, you have never lettered or even thought about lettering this is a really easy way to start.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlOhdGo8naU4_vR1X3GUa2GzoNiskOPpYiaVz8KE5_rCnj-LpPHrRdNrS6jYbAQWWPOaz2pKomti9tGBEM3RKnHiv1xTK1-OOTsXKsiHtO1uShznLgIHQa85l4rZVV4IxmImSkghAwKPrM/s1600/IMG_4971.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlOhdGo8naU4_vR1X3GUa2GzoNiskOPpYiaVz8KE5_rCnj-LpPHrRdNrS6jYbAQWWPOaz2pKomti9tGBEM3RKnHiv1xTK1-OOTsXKsiHtO1uShznLgIHQa85l4rZVV4IxmImSkghAwKPrM/s1600/IMG_4971.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Just print the letters and go back in and add some bulk especially to the beginning and ending of each letter.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

These are the pens I use, they are readily available in most box stores that sell pens.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Here's a place I used this style of lettering in an exaggerated form...........<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJHcR1VWEvVaPNBnvzxY2z7Jjh5dDVNo3GkwL8SQF8WRI_XQXVKGSheNnbahq6Dn7sUh5R5EeDf8RXP8XKpnUcENlYMms_tdWU1QGv6NMrYxwyVX3gehruxRdeP0KPjm2Mt-Xiyyc6SgeD/s1600/IMG_4973.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJHcR1VWEvVaPNBnvzxY2z7Jjh5dDVNo3GkwL8SQF8WRI_XQXVKGSheNnbahq6Dn7sUh5R5EeDf8RXP8XKpnUcENlYMms_tdWU1QGv6NMrYxwyVX3gehruxRdeP0KPjm2Mt-Xiyyc6SgeD/s1600/IMG_4973.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Hope you are keeping warm and safe......spring, surely, will arrive some day!!! Take advantage of your "down time" and create something......anything!<br />

That's why I journal....so, I have something to refer back to, just kidding.....maybe!<br />
<br />
Aside from having a very expensive porcelain crown put in my mouth, to replace the one that broke on New Year's Day, pruning roses and taking the doggie to have his hair and nails done...I prepped for our class on Thursday....and helped teach it! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqNjkue9eta-QPhkbNtJo6spmAelqHTXqQeygJH-rLD30DDqpkkqqoHURC_XrmHCrF0DSuaS_uvDoil4Vfy552U7KDIiAWVPhdK4pzI2xNkBQ3SqB8PmzaeF4_abXnfPvijnqNACrmoV1Z/s1600/IMG_4976.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqNjkue9eta-QPhkbNtJo6spmAelqHTXqQeygJH-rLD30DDqpkkqqoHURC_XrmHCrF0DSuaS_uvDoil4Vfy552U7KDIiAWVPhdK4pzI2xNkBQ3SqB8PmzaeF4_abXnfPvijnqNACrmoV1Z/s1600/IMG_4976.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I mentioned last week that we are encouraging our students to follow along with the "Document Your Life Project" so we are using their prompts for inspiration....this week it was selfies (we are a couple weeks behind). This is my selfie example for the class........done on a tip-in, that when folded back reveals........<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdWjOj9XVwkhYTDTzg15eB4MTSvhl3tlZq8GMjo5wL9uggbj73CeKG-OmhNjzS5rMD97MJMbnZvvXLvEQnkMHYskWtSd0OWb_9iqHY0SWuhYA3KzDN4dyN-wRKlAnelKu8_Ti0mlA93uqu/s1600/IMG_4977.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdWjOj9XVwkhYTDTzg15eB4MTSvhl3tlZq8GMjo5wL9uggbj73CeKG-OmhNjzS5rMD97MJMbnZvvXLvEQnkMHYskWtSd0OWb_9iqHY0SWuhYA3KzDN4dyN-wRKlAnelKu8_Ti0mlA93uqu/s1600/IMG_4977.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The back of the selfie with my featured word "bloom" and under that the page with the orange circle is yet, another tip-in.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfa-yL4MmOlzoDGaPrFhR-b902-Pn0P258SMw2Hz08PmID_8i_vbuTigOA0UAl2WDIPbmMO_8HkaClcdEPsKu7FJTCcQzkwTY3YjU9w8R_j2cPED0s7m_lMrNY9CE-A5EM-wznpeKVSqJ3/s1600/IMG_4979.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfa-yL4MmOlzoDGaPrFhR-b902-Pn0P258SMw2Hz08PmID_8i_vbuTigOA0UAl2WDIPbmMO_8HkaClcdEPsKu7FJTCcQzkwTY3YjU9w8R_j2cPED0s7m_lMrNY9CE-A5EM-wznpeKVSqJ3/s1600/IMG_4979.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This tip-in features my beloved, spray painted, turquoise chandelier! On the facing page (not quite finished), are my Julia Cameron's Vein of Gold writing exercises called "secret selves". Secret, hidden under my tip-in.....get it?<br />
<br />
So, class time was used to make their selfies and playing with Gelli printing. I think the printing was a hit!<br />
<br />
Next class, we are going to try a little book binding so I used my 15 year old granddaughter for my practice student. She did very well....those kids, they catch on so fast. I like her book and she really made the whole thing.....I just would demo and she would do!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTwF0MsZfg3arEV9V2fEQVSrnaetm99zlqTG9CTjY9AXAHX5o-cw_bRNtr97UsYQ6t6rrVSh7XQnCTEC0PBn5RUGUtWEfrW5Q3Vh0pCT0u5eCqaRU5mPkAoLLtE-Jj8gzC68LCEFCdTqij/s1600/IMG_4989.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTwF0MsZfg3arEV9V2fEQVSrnaetm99zlqTG9CTjY9AXAHX5o-cw_bRNtr97UsYQ6t6rrVSh7XQnCTEC0PBn5RUGUtWEfrW5Q3Vh0pCT0u5eCqaRU5mPkAoLLtE-Jj8gzC68LCEFCdTqij/s1600/IMG_4989.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Cool cover, huh? We did cut a box apart and glued a piece of card stock on the other side to give it a little more weight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Thursday was the first day of our Artful Journaling class at the local art center.<br />
<br />
We had nine eager to learn students from a variety of backgrounds.....and it was fun! I teach with another woman, who's name happens to be Jan, too. We refer to ourselves and the Jan and Jan show!<br />
Jan P. is great at creative writing and getting our class members into thinking retrospectively. They seem to like that.<br />

We are linking our students to The Document Your Life Project, which you can learn more about at <a href="http://www.arttothe5th.com/">www.arttothe5th.com</a>. <br />
<br />
Our class is only four weeks but the Document Project will go on all year by giving members weekly journaling prompts and ideas on how to create art with those prompts.<br />
<br />
This has been a very popular concept, they have 3800 member, or more, already signed up. It is free, informative and very inspiring.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieB6StXJbwWKxhta8-eBPYz5PRtRorZJF4dXEJm5TPSDJJsySnbG7Kgoqv-zp_MNmChLGTXHL1TbhDshab4x4jWEwgvtcK7bpiyru0LvgWJF1Jd__YPBq5EKWJgcSRIS2Li6U9k_chAHSy/s1600/IMG_4967.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieB6StXJbwWKxhta8-eBPYz5PRtRorZJF4dXEJm5TPSDJJsySnbG7Kgoqv-zp_MNmChLGTXHL1TbhDshab4x4jWEwgvtcK7bpiyru0LvgWJF1Jd__YPBq5EKWJgcSRIS2Li6U9k_chAHSy/s1600/IMG_4967.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
So, first lesson in the art part of the class agenda was making the calendar pages for our planners.<br />
<br />
Dividing pages into eight equal parts required some math skills and concentration....that was the hard part! Then came the creative stuff!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Our class is only two and a half hours long and we have a lot to cover. I decided it would move things along if I were to make a Gelli printed mono print for each person. We are following the DLP prompts and their first one was "doors" and we went with that.<br />
<br />

<br />
Students may use my prints, as they are, or make their own creative pages. These are the class samples that I made.<br />

I am so anxious to see the nine interpretations of "doors" that our group comes up with, I can't wait for Thursday.</div>

I'd tell you I'd been traveling........but you'd never believe me.<br />
<br />
Christmas has come and gone, New Year's has come and gone and I've been no where in site, as far as, this blog was concerned. So, by golly it is time to get caught up.<br />
<br />
I've been getting a BUNCH of cool inspiration since the first of the year. I've joined in on the Document Your Life Project which you can access here <a href="http://www.arttothe5th.com/">http://www.arttothe5th.com/</a>. The "life" project is FREE, if go to the blog site you will find out how you can join me, and 3500 of my closest friends, in journaling fun and inspiration!<br />
<br />
I did buy a Moleskine Planner, as suggested, won't buy another one for this purpose. I'm a pretty casual journaler but I really did not like the weight of the paper in this book. But, it's O.K., I've always wanted a Moleskine journal....now, I have one and a better idea how to use it. <br />
<br />
Of course, I'm doing everything my way but it has been delightful to see the various interpretations of the suggested prompt each week and the inspiration is truly endless.<br />
<br />
The first week, the prompt was doors........here's my version.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOgLYi4nMJx77amgxpaOnrFU9An3C1Rv-XMB-iymwZ1Ax78vbPBoIdYQBjpN6t5v1hDPhK83xN-y-lYcHX4LJrbxLmyLd52Vh7zZgoVwIUEdRM8I6d_4XHctvenmAUTBM4q769HqYlmSm4/s1600/IMG_4939.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOgLYi4nMJx77amgxpaOnrFU9An3C1Rv-XMB-iymwZ1Ax78vbPBoIdYQBjpN6t5v1hDPhK83xN-y-lYcHX4LJrbxLmyLd52Vh7zZgoVwIUEdRM8I6d_4XHctvenmAUTBM4q769HqYlmSm4/s400/IMG_4939.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Second week......selfie!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvQ9_ME1jEu6LW31PfTWUOTPbbnjz0Ceme8pmOPX30hVpp36t0FTfIXpwsCcl1LmEqs63PEOc6uW9Kb25cWXDQNs15wK2ukrBMA3bCz7Dk4irwlBpEqxo5ZsBbW1WBqOFCgFAnataHB-TK/s1600/IMG_4957.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvQ9_ME1jEu6LW31PfTWUOTPbbnjz0Ceme8pmOPX30hVpp36t0FTfIXpwsCcl1LmEqs63PEOc6uW9Kb25cWXDQNs15wK2ukrBMA3bCz7Dk4irwlBpEqxo5ZsBbW1WBqOFCgFAnataHB-TK/s400/IMG_4957.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The tip-in is the back of the doors piece above! My "selfie" celebrates buying new jeans! I really, really hate buying jeans. I have short legs and too much middle and no butt......do you have any idea what it takes to cover that up! I found some stretchy Levi's that I, actually, love.<br />
<br />
As, if this wasn't enough excitement......I'm taking Joanne Sharpe's newest class, Draw Your Awesome Year.<a href="http://joannezsharpe.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Click here</a> to visit her blog and learn more. This class is not free but it is well worth the money, Joanne is a very good teacher. More great journaling ideas.....like this.<br />

<br />
I'm finding I love Tombow pens and lettering almost as much as my new Levi's!<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgihOn0TYVMEeCcYQ3o6UIJADUC-QoPRfyPpc12UX_ofNWJ6_btIBbmJgeMDJnBsy2rwfEJuQWX8Cb5dxEG-o_ct4F2WEslkRASqurzXZ8nNJUeBqTyAc9YyARiByPM8kH0ue7qvQItfEzs/s1600/IMG_4956.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgihOn0TYVMEeCcYQ3o6UIJADUC-QoPRfyPpc12UX_ofNWJ6_btIBbmJgeMDJnBsy2rwfEJuQWX8Cb5dxEG-o_ct4F2WEslkRASqurzXZ8nNJUeBqTyAc9YyARiByPM8kH0ue7qvQItfEzs/s640/IMG_4956.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Stepped out on my own on these two journal pages......I may be drummed out of the club, we'll see. "Renaissance" was inspired by a piece of art I had in my stash and a book I'm reading on the Italian Renaissance. "Hello" is just doodling on a Gelli print!<br />
<br />
BTW how I've overcome the too light paper in the planner is, of course, by gluing in a piece of watercolor or drawing paper for back up!<br />
<br />
I like having more space on the calendar page to write entries into each day, so that is a plus for this planner, and I will add tip in's as I go along and feel the need. <br />
<br />
It's good to be back. Hope you are all well and digging out from under whatever Mother Nature has thrown your way!</div>
